Francis' tender gestures with his private secretary
The photos on this page show Pope Francis holding hands in public and exchanging affectionate glances with his private secretary, the Uruguayan Fr. Gonzalo Aemilius. What this public display of affection means is left to the discernment and good sense of each person.Fr. Aemilius, 41, an acquaintance of Card. Jorge Bergoglio when he was Archbishop of Buenos Aires, was invited by Francis to be his personal secretary, a postiton he held from January 2020 to July 2023.
His previous personal secretary was Argentine Msgr. Fabian Pedacchio, 49, last row left, who held that position from 2013 to 2019. The one who replaced Aemilius is another Argentinian, Fr. Daniel Pellizon, 40, last row right.
